Group Winners & Track Records at the Doncaster St Leger Festival
The Doncaster St Leger Meeting took place last week and GUTAIFAN led home a Dark Angel 1st and 3rd in the Group 2 Flying Childers Stakes in a remarkable fashion to take the juvenile track record. The progressive 2 year old followed on from his win in the G2 Prix Robert Papin and his second in the Gr1 Prix Morny to beat Ornate and the Yeomanstown yearling LOG OUT ISLAND (Dark Angel). The Al Shaqab owned colt may now head to the Middle Park Stakes according to trainer Richard Hannon.
The previous day the ever tough REALTRA (Dark Angel) won the Group 3 Sceptre Stakes for Japanese owner Yasushi Kubota and trainer Roger Varian. This was the 3 year olds second win on the bounce following on from her decisive win in the Dick Hern Fillies Stakes at Haydock. The filly was bred by Tom and Geraldine Molan’s Riversfield Stud and was purchased by her current owner earlier this year at the Goffs London Sale on the eve of Royal Ascot for £290,00.
The Doncaster Festival gave Dark Angel a third winner in the shape of the ever green BRONZE ANGEL, when the 6 year old recorded his eighth career win in the big handicap on Saturday for owner Lady Tenant and trainer Marcus Tregoning. The Yeomanstown yearling was sold to Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock at Doncaster back in 2010 and has proved a loyal servant to his connections.
