Second Listed Success For Dark Angel Filly Got To Love A Grey

With no less than six of the 12 runners in yesterday’s Listed Prix Ronde de Nuit at Chantilly officially described as grey or grey/roan, it was perhaps fitting that the Karl Burke-trained Got To Love A Grey (DarkAngel) came home in front in the colours of Middleham Park Racing CXXI.  Making her first start since finishing fifth in the Gr.2 QueencMary Stakes at Royal Ascot, she was always prominent towards the stands’ side rail in the hands of Sam James, but had to be chivvied along from halfway.

She mastered fellow British raiders Myconian and Graceful Thunder 300m out, then found generously to see off the challenge of the penalised Gr.2 winner Classic Flower by a length and a half. Un Instant finished third. Bred by the Regatta Partnership and a 52,000gns purchase by Aguiar Bloodstock at the Tattersalls Somerville Yearling Sales, Got To Love A Grey won by six-lengths on her racecourse debut at Nottingham last April, before making all the running in the Listed Marygate Stakes at York. She is the pick of four winners out of the dual French Listed winner Regatta, a granddaughter of the Gr.2 Grand Prix de Deauville winner and Gr.1-placed Robertet.
