First Black-Type Juvenile Winner As Anthelia Reins Supreme At Sandown
Freshman sire Supremacy welcomed a first Stakes winner when the Rod Millman-trained Anthelia won the 5f Listed National Stakes at Sandown yesterday evening. Already the sire’s first winner when triumphing at Bath in early April, the filly had won again at Salisbury earlier this month and now has a perfect three-from-three record. The Yeomanstown homebred was held up in touch by Lewis Edmunds before making headway over a furlong from home. Switched right on to the rail at the furlong pole, she had to be courageous to take the tight gap and then did well to hold off First Legion by a length. Eskimo Pie finished third.
Bred by Yeomanstown and owned in partnership by Middleham Park Racing LXIV and Mrs L Millman, the two-year-old filly was purchased by her trainer at the Goffs Premier Yearling Sale at Doncaster. She is a half-sister to a pair of winners by Dream Ahead and is the third winner out of the winner and Listed Rose Bowl Stakes third All On Red.
Although Royal Ascot had not initially been on her radar, connections might now be forced to reconsider and look at either the Gr.2 Queen
Mary Stakes or Listed Windsor Castle Stakes. She also holds an entry in the Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes at Newbury in July. A £65,000 purchase by trainer Clive Cox at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale in 2019, Supremacy went on to win the Gr.2 Richmond Stakes and Gr.1 Middle Park Stakes during a stellar two-year-old season, defeating the likes of Lucky Vega and Minzaal along the way. The son of Mehmas was retired to stud at the end of a less productive three-year-old season but proved an immediate hit with breeders. He has 130 two-year-olds to go to war with and stands for €8,000 this year.
