Soul Love Notches Up Second Stakes Victory At Naas
Yorkshire-based trainer Karl Burke had a successful trip over to Naas yesterday evening, with his filly Soul Love leading home a field of 15 in the Listed Yeomanstown Stud EBF Stakes over 6f. The three-year-old daughter of Starman, who was carrying a 3lb penalty for her previous Stakes success, raced prominently down the centre and came through to lead over two furlongs from home. Flanked by her rivals inside the final furlong, she dug deep and saw off the fast-finishing Dancing Saxon to prevail by half a length. The four-year-old Fregada, who had to give weight to her younger rivals, was a further length and a quarter behind in third. Soul Love was seen just once as a juvenile when making a winning debut over 6f at Southwell in November. She made a successful seasonal reappearance at Newcastle in March before tasting defeat for the first time in the following month’s Gr.3 Prix Sigy. However, she was not out of the winner’s enclosure for long and landed the rearranged Listed Chelmer Fillies’ Stakes over 6f at Goodwood just a few weeks later. On her previous start just under two weeks ago, she had finished a fine third in the Gr.3 Summer Stakes over the same trip at York.
Speaking after the race, trainer Karl Burke said: “Here and Leopardstown have been very lucky for me. We’ve had some nice winners here. She’s such a tough filly, very game, very honest. To do that with a penalty. We’ll try and pick up some Group 3 black type somewhere hopefully. I’m very happy with that.
“She’s backed up a very good run the last day. It was only two weeks ago at York. She’s pretty professional. I’m not sure where we’ll go next but we’ll try and find some Group 3 somewhere.”
Bred by Northern Star Bloodstock Ltd, Soul Love races in the silks of David Ward, who also owned and bred her sire. She is a full-sister to the winning juvenile Lady Rosalind and a half-sister to the Gr.3 Superior Mile runner-up Excellent Believe (Make Believe), and they are the first three runners out of the Listed Champion 2YO Trophy runner-up Lambeth Walk (Charm Spirit), who was sold by Tweenhills to Ward’s Northern Star Bloodstock for 70,000gns at the 2021 Tattersalls December Mares Sale.
